On August 24th, 2012 Terrie, Coral and Tucker picked me up in my hotel room close to the airport.
We were going to go to the planetarium but then found out we only had directions to it from a different La Quinta, so we went back inside to get the directions, but instead we found Legoland Discovery Center on a tourist paper.
This was our new destination and Terrie was a good driver to get us there efficiently. Phipps Plaza was a wonderful looking mall with lots of expensive stores along the hallways and expensive cars in the show areas.
We took an escalator and then an elevator to get to the top floor. While waiting for the elevator to come to our floor we got our first look at what Legoland Discovery Center would be like in a mall.
When we got to the right level several smiling young people were there to take our money and tell us where to go next.

I thought it was clever to have LEGO filling each upright. It was bright and inviting. |

Finding out her weight in LEGO bricks |
Ready to start exploring Miniland |
We could not take pictures in the first area as they took pictures to sell there. We played a fun game like lazer tag while riding in a two bench seated cart. Terrie was the winner all three times we went on that ride!!
He happily told us all about building the large buildings and animals in this center. He is happy to have such a fun job and get paid for it. We found out that he had to enter a build off competition and build more then the others to win the job. All the workers at this location seemed to be in their mid twenties and enjoyed the interaction with all the kids around them. A lot of the ones we talked to were art majors in college and had a great interest base. |
A ride was the next up on our things to do list. We got into pairs... Coral and Terrie, Tucker and I, and then they pedalled a lot to go up high and we did not.
Off to the 4D movies next!! It was fun to see the rhino coming right at us and feel the snow on our heads and arms. The wind blew and Coral got cold so we went to play in the big bricks while Terrie and Tucker watched the third movie.

4D ready! |
This pup was cute and big enough for a lot of kids to try to have a seat on his back |
Working hard at building a tower taller then her and taller then me |
Done! |
Somewhere in here we enjoyed lunch in the mall food court right across from Legoland.
Have to be careful how much we order at MOE'S as their servings are LARGE! |
Yes, we went back for more. No one was ready to leave just yet.
One interesting place was the car building and racing area. A lot of the older kids and adults stayed here a long time.
The great car race |
The climbing structure was another fun place and was visited twice by T and C.
Coral played in the Friends section for a little while. Good thing she likes pink and purple.
A few more looks around and another ride or two on the pedal ride...
Terrie taking a video on her small camera and also on Don's small camera - at the same time. What great skills she has. |
Finally all the letters we had hunted for all over the LEGO Discovery Center were unscrabbled for the form to fill out for a draw for a year pass. |
We passed up the cafe with hot dogs and p&j sandwiches |
Filling out one more form |
Loads of LEGO in the gift shop on the way out |
Two packages of mystery people for each equals fun in the van |
Grammie got them |
Since we did not buy the passport booklets to stamp each place T and C used their hands as a good place use each stamp. Maybe the cupcake one was best! |
It was a fun day!
